Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu is a justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and currently the Acting Director of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI). Justice Tanko Amadu has been a Private Legal Practitioner in Ghana and Nigeria for a cumulative period of Twenty Five (25) years before his appointment to the High Court bench in 2008. He was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Ghana where he obtained the Bachelor of Laws (L.LB) Degree in 1980 and was subsequently enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana in 1982 after his professional law course at the Ghana School of Law. In 1985, he was enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after passing the professional law examination at the Nigeria Law School. He is a 2010 alumnus of the International Law Institute, Washington DC. USA where he is a certified participant in the International Arbitration programme of the Institute. He is also a certified participant in a seminar on International Property Rights organised by the United States Department of Commerce in Abuja, Nigeria in 2008. Justice Tanko Amadu holds a Diploma in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, United Kingdom. Due to his enthusiasm in sports, Justice Tanko Amadu made his expertise in dispute resolution available when he served as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association and later became the Chairman of the Appeals and Legal Committees. He also served as the Chairman of the Grievance, Dispute and Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana chapter of the International Olympic Committee from 2016 to 2021. Justice Tanko Amadu has outside his normal judicial duties served in other administrative capacities as the Deputy Director of Complaints of the judiciary between 2009 and 2011. He also served as the Judge with oversight administrative responsibility on behalf of the Chief Justice for the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions from 2012 to 2015. He is a member of the Judges and Magistrates Performance Review Committee. Justice Tanko Amadu is certified by various institutions as a Participant and Presenter on contemporary legal issues in the Procedural law, Commercial Law and International Arbitration. Until his appointment as the Ag. Director of the Judicial Training Institute, Justice Tanko Amadu has been a faculty member and resource person for the training of Judges at all levels in Ghana. Justice Tanko Amadu is an Examiner of the Ghana School of Law and has been responsible for the Practical Advocacy Examination among others since 2009.
